Marian women's soccer powers past Lakeland in 6-0 shutout

FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's soccer (5-7-0, 3-3-0 NACC) earned their second-straight shutout defeating Lakeland 6-0.

The scoring started early for the Sabres with freshman Ashley Welk scoring goals in the fifth minute and 36th minute to give her nine on the season.  Fellow freshman Megan Harbeck then added to the lead with 1:10 left in the half when she buried a penalty kick in the lower right of the net, her second of the season.  Junior Addisen Groehler set up the goal when she was able to draw a foul in the penalty area.

Freshman Natalie Des Jardins opened the scoring for the second half with her first-career goal, sophomore Kylie Hanley with the assist, after just 10:11 of action.  Junior Emily Hill then scored her third goal of the season in the 65th minute.  Junior Alicia Balken closed out the scoring just 2:18 later with her second goal fo the year after receiving a cross pass from fellow junior Danielle Flouro.

Marian finished with a 38-7 advantage in shots led by Welk who recorded nine shots, five of which were on goal.  Sophomore Kylie Lange (5-7-0) stopped all four shots she faced in 72:02 of action to earn the win, while freshman Brianna Levine saved the only shot she saved to preserve the shutout.

Marian travels to Concordia Chicago in a big NACC match-up Saturday, Oct. 12 with kick-off scheduled for 3 p.m.
