FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's hockey (10-4-1, 6-4-0 NCHA) completed a sweep of St. Scholastica defeating the Saints 6-2.
The Sabres were able to once again get out to a strong start after sophomore Gianni Vitali netted his 10th goal of the season at the 8:45 mark to give Marian a 1-0 lead after one period. Marian then netted three goals in a span of 3:22 to go ahead 4-0.
Junior Anthony Orubor opened the spurt with his first goal of the season, assists to sophomore Troy Ring and freshman Blake Kleiner. Sophomore Parker Colley then lit the lamp for the fourth time this season with an assist from freshman Ty Enns and Vitali. Senior Chris Deprez then scored his first goal of the season with assists from Orubor and freshman Zach Lawrence.
Colley would net his second of the game just 1:39 into the third period to open a five-goal lead, assists to Vitali and Enns. St. Scholastica was able to end the shutout at the 3:46 mark before Enns scored for the fourth time this season with an assist to Colley. The Saints were able to close out the scoring for the game at the 5:44 mark at 6-2.
Marian once again finished with an advantage in shots at 36-33 with a 29-21 advantage over the final two periods combined. Senior Hunter Vorva (7-3-1) made 31 stops to earn the win marking the fifth-straight game he has made at least 30 saves.
The Sabre penalty kill didn't allow a power-play goal for the eighth time this season holding the Saints scoreless on three opportunities.
Marian opens a series against MSOE on the road Friday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. in NCHA action.
