Marian men's hockey pulls away late in 4-0 shutout of Bethel

BLAINE, Minn. - Marian University men's hockey (6-3-0, 3-3-0 NCHA) scored three goals in the third period to pull away from Bethel and defeat the Royals 4-0 in non-conference action.

Only one goal was scored in the first two periods when senior Conner Blanck lit the lamp for the fifth time this season at the 16:32 mark of the first period with assists to sophomore Parker Colley and junior Dylan Hutton

The Sabres would hold a slim 21-19 advantage in shots through the first two periods but pulled away in the third outshooting the Royals 18-7.  Hutton scored his third goal of the weekend with an assist to senior Chris Deprez at the 7:24 mark of the third to open the scoring for the final stanza. 

A pair of five-minute majors from the Royals resulted in a pair of Sabre power-play goals with Colley scoring his second goal of the year at the 17:50 mark and senior Clay Cross scoring his second tally of the season at the 18:51 mark.  Senior Brett Radford and freshman Ty Enns assisted the Colley goal, while seniors Lawson MacDonald and Davis Ross each earned an assist on the Cross goal.

In his first career start, freshman Colby Muise posted a 26-save shutout with 12 of his saves coming in the second period.  Radford paced the Sabre offense with a game-high six shots, while Enns added five.

Both sides of special teams had another strong game with the power play going 2-5 and the penalty kill holding the Royals scoreless on a pair of opportunities.

Marian returns to NCHA action hosting Aurora Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. from Blue Line.
