FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's hockey (11-8-4, 9-5-2 NCHA) defeated Lawrence 4-0 to retain possession of the Battle of Highway 41 trophy.
Senior Jake Howie recorded a multi-goal game scoring the first two Sabre goals. His first came at the 15:51 mark of the opening period with assists to freshmen Parker Colley and Troy Ring. He then padded the Marian lead with his sixth goal of the year at the 3:52 mark of the second period, assists to senior Nick Monfils and freshman Salvatore Scalise.
With the Sabres battling off a five-minute major, freshman Blaine Caton was able to bury a breakaway for his third goal of the season, assist to Scalise. Sophomore Anthony Orubor closed out the game with less than two seconds on the clock with a shorthanded empty net goal, his second of the season.
The Sabres finished with a 35-25 advantage in shots with junior Hunter Vorva (10-7-4) making 25 saves for his third shutout of the season. Howie paced the Marian offense with a team-high five shots on goal.
Marian opens the final weekend of the regular season hosting St. Scholastica at 7 p.m. Friday, February 8.
