Sabre men's golf opens spring season at Wheaton Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. - Marian University men's golf shot a 327 in the first round and followed that up with a 332 in the second round to finish eighth at the Wheaton Invitational.

Jake Sherwood led the way for the Sabres with consistency in both rounds shooting an 80 and 79 to finish in a tie for 17th place.  Tyler Demeuse and Caleb Martin finished a shot apart from each other with a 166 and 167, respectively, while Maxwell Dye closed out the Sabre scoring with an 81 and 86.  Aaron Rick rounded out the lineup for Marian with an 88 and 90.

The Sabres also had a second squad compete led by Kyle Doyle who finished in a tie for 22nd overall, second amongst all Marian golfers, after carding a 79 and 84.  OJ Garcia was next in for the second squad with a 173, while Jarryd Gano and Michael Cosenza were two shots apart with a 181 and 183, respectively.  Jake Bell shot a first round 92 to close out the Sabres.

Carthage won the meet with a team score of 605, while Drew Engelking from host Wheaton earned the individual title via tiebreaker with a 149.

Marian is scheduled to host the Marian Spring Invite April 6-7 from Whispering Springs.
