Sabre men's volleyball closes out trip to California

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Marian University men's volleyball (0-4, 0-0 NACC) closed out the Slug Slam falling to No. 8 Cal Lutheran in straight sets and to North Central (Ill.) 3-1.

In the opener of the day, the Sabres played their third-consecutive nationally-ranked opponent in No. 8 Cal Lutheran.  Once again, Marian was able to play tightly to open against a highly-touted opponent but fell with set scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-12.

Sophomore Robert Walusay, senior Ben Walter, and senior Jon Smallpage all had six kills to lead the way, while Smallpage added a team-best 10 digs from the back row.  At the net, Walter had three block assists, and senior Joey Dittman finished with 21 assists.

The Sabres got out to a slow start in their second match of the day dropping the first two sets 25-21 to North Central (Ill.).  Marian would bounce back with a 25-21 win of their own to force a fourth set before falling 25-16.

Marian takes a break before playing Carthage in their home opener Saturday, January 26 at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
